Chances are the wax that your grandmother, my grandmother and our mothers wore and loved were manufactured by Vlisco in the Netherlands. I still have memories of seeing "Veritable Wax Hollandais Vlisco" branded on the edges of fabrics. Mother loved her dutch wax. As I grew older, whenever her and I went to Albert Market in Banjul, she'd always complain about how the newer waxes were all imitations and none of them possessed the finesse of the Hollandaise wax.
I must say I admire Vlisco. They make the best ad campaigns. I have found even greater respect for advertising ever since I was coerced into watching Mad Men which happens to be my favorite television show. The ads are just breath taking. Advertising at it's finest.
