Champions League Finals Post-Game Analysis

BRAVO BARCA – GRACIAS GUARDIOLA – MERCI MESSI; WORTHY CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE

At a time when football is blemished …no, badly scarred, with scandals that really do not represent the game, true fans of the beautiful game would give anything to get something - anything - positive, about the game we so love. This is why, instead of doing a post match analysis, I’m using the space to say THANK YOU to FC Barcelona for allowing us, even if for a brief moment, to forget our “troubles” and be reminded of all the GOOD reasons we so love our good football.

Some Thoughts on "Shout Gambia"

- The documentary is very well done. There is a sure editing and directing hand guiding the process - it is not explicitly visible, but it can be felt behind the scenes, its deft touches shaping the narrative,  and carrying our attention. At times it approaches poeticness, at other times poignancy as the narrator links the segments, his voice just the right laidbackness, invoking a sitting around tassey attaya sharing the story of Gambian music.

- There are interesting juxtapositions, throughout. Why did the Gambian music industry, by all accounts a raging success in the 60s and 70s, die out so suddenly? Because all the artitsts left for greener pastures, the yoot man says. Because the artists went into "strategic retreat", the old timer says, the main factor behind the retreat being the increase in the the size of the country's population, spread out across wider areas of land.

Review of Instant Success

Instant Success: Ten Keys to Personal Achievement. Momodou Sabally. The Gambia: Fulladu Publishers, 2011. 72pp

Introduction:

In “Instant Success Ten Keys to Personal Achievement” Momodou Sabally seeks to unleash the beast of success supposedly within any person willing to take the journey his book takes its readers through. The book of seventy-two (72) pages holds a formula for success in ten (10) chapters starting with the first step – “Be Yourself” – to the final step – “Be Coachable”. Within all ten chapters, the writer borrows words of inspiration from some of history’s most inspirational writers, philosophers and leaders whilst also finding truth in words of scripture to support his statements.

Never Too Early Album Review

Gee formerly “G-Baby” releases his latest album “Never Too Early” which is a follow up to the double album in 2008 “Behind the Scenes” co-emceeing Sweden Based Gambian Rapper NUBEand “Freedom of Speech” which is an album with positive messages, energetic beats, and unique wordplay. Upon listening to the album, you will be extremely impressed as it has a creative and innovative style; the lyrics however, are what sets it apart from other albums in this genre.

Right after the album release of his two albums , while at a radio interview, Gee admitted that he had already started recording his next album.

MLK "Life is a Blessing" -

“…but what I have enjoyed the most and would love to hear more of is some of that poetic vibe from MLK. I find it raw and unedited and for some odd reason I believe a little more Gambian poetry into his songs and some crazily emphatic instrumentals would take his music places.” – Latirr Carr/ Smiling Coast Read-Im

Martin Luther/Lyrix King will be launching his album (life is a blessing) on Friday, October 29th, 2010 and having heard his promotional singles including the much debated but appreciated “dor deh ham” I was one of the many people who kept my ears glued to the grapevine awaiting the sweet poetry his music promised from the get go.

Six hours after listening to the album which is stacked with a lucky number 17 songs, I was ready to talk about the work of a young Gambian artist and his first baby.
