Do You Remember…

… the many things that tied themselves up in a bundle and walked/flew/swam right to your doorstep with a tag that read ”These, shall great memories make“? Well, I’m in that ‘nostalgic’ state of mind right now and where better to share than right here, on home turf (I just felt like using that to sound like a footie lover.

Open Letter to "DAILY NEWS" newspaper

How the hell do you take someone’s personal facebook status, with comments from his friends to publish on your newspaper and call the ethics behind it “debatable”.  I have always questioned the standard of journalism in The Gambia, but this is way below anything I ever imagined our newspapers of being capable of.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a facebook status on my PERSONAL WALL questioning the 4G promotion being done by one of our GSM providers. IT WAS NOT MEANT FOR PUBLICATION! I write and I publish. I help manage one of the most vibrant literary websites currently available (if not the only one) to Gambians and if I wanted publication on the topic, I would have gone ahead and done it MYSELF.  I write essays for Balafong.com and sometimes copy for publication on the Standard Newspaper and would have used that avenue if I wanted my PERSONAL views which were to be shared with my FRIENDS only, to be seen by the entire Gambian populace.

The Polygamist

The Polygamist

When he was young he had spoken about polygamy with his friends, male and female.  Their generation was different, people would say, women were educated, and what educated woman would be a second wife, or agree to having her husband marry another one. And there would be other sides too, people speaking about religion, about their natural rights as men.

- People don't understand, someone - usually a woman - would say, - there is a condition in it. God says it's OK - as long as you love them both equally. But who can love two women equally? That is where the problem lies nak.

This wasn't the problem. He knew now, with hindsight. It wasn't about loving them equally - that was like comparing apples to oranges.

Some Gambian food...Finally !!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you've talked to me this week, you're probably tired of hearing me rave about my domoda and findi. Domoda is a popular peanut butter dish in Gambia. It is served with either rice or "findi" ( another grain) which happens to be my favorite.

I always give people excuses for not cooking Gambian food often. "Oh I don't have palm oil or I don't have catfish" blah blah blah

No more! My sister saved me. She got me Findi from a company called "Scape Gambia Co. LTD". Thanks Yam! I haven't had findi in years and I was super psyched about eating it. The product came in very nice packaging. I was happy to consume Gambian food from a Gambian owned company and they really did justice to this traditional grain. It tasted AWESOME! I highly recommend. Plus Gambians need to take a break from rice anyway so Findi is a good start lol. Contact Scape.

Quantum's new email to sms gateway

I saw in the paper today an advertisement from Quantum for their new service (jambarr), which lets you send and receive emails from your mobile phone, via a gateway. Check it out - sending emails from your phone deducts from your credit (D1 for each sms, which price includes a reply from the email address); and to send sms from your email address you have to buy jambarr credits, which they say you can get from any Quantumnet Internet cafe. The service works for all the cellphone carriers, which is a big plus. There is a problem with receiving emails as sms though - every time I tried sending an email from my gmail account my phone gave me an error ("Text not formatted as ASCII - could not parse", or something similar).
